SUMMARY:Pookie // Farmhouse Odyssey // Ronny Two Shoes
DESCRIPTION:Pookie (Santa Barbara – math rock):\nInitially formed by drummer\, Nick Fields\, and guitarist\, Chris Miehl in 2011\, Pookie has been making audiences sweat for over six years and is a long standing staple of the Santa Barbara DIY music scene. Since their original inception\, Pookie has welcomed a variety of members\, most recently featuring bass player Jacob Grobison. They continue churning out their signature sweatcore™. \nTheir sound blends equal parts clean-twang rock riffs with odd time signatures and distortions. Their shows are generally fast-paced\, technical\, and upbeat. They have supported all kinds of people and bands like the following:\nThe Story So Far ~ Football\, Etc ~ Basement ~ Turnover ~ awakebutstillinbed ~ Walter Mitty and his Makeshift Orchestra (Walter Etc.) ~ Media jeweler (Fire Talk records) ~ Arrington de Dionyso (Old Time Relijun – K Records) ~ And more!\nhttp://pookie.bandcamp.com/ \nFarmhouse Odyssey (Arcata – prog rock):\nFarmhouse Odyssey was formed by five college students in a small farmhouse in the fall of 2012 in Arcata\, California. Embracing an improvisational writing style and inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest\, the band quickly developed an organic and undeniably original sound. Songs flow freely between moods and styles influenced by progressive rock\, psychedelia\, jazz\, funk\, and world music\, while always retaining the distinct musical personality of the group. \nThe group deftly executes their complex arrangements with skill and precision\, never losing sight of the strong emotional undercurrent of each song. Their live shows\, which have been described by fans as “face-melting” and as an “interdimensional journey through time and space”\, have made them into local favorites in Humboldt county\, and Farmhouse Odyssey has been excited to see their music spreading across the state of California and across the nation!\nhttp://farmhouseodyssey. \nRonny Two Shoes (Arcata – modern American roots):\nRonny has been a drummer for most of his life\, but around the age of 18 started messing around with bass and keyboards\, quickly becoming a songwriter.\nRonny Two Shoes is a true solo experiment\, where Ronny plays drums\, bass\, keyboards\, and sings on his compositions. The music is a modern spin on American roots music\, with a vintage vibe.\nhttp://ronnytwoshoes.bandcamp.com/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:Free Embodied Songwriting & Spoken Word Workshop w/ Dell'Arte
DESCRIPTION:Our bodies are our homes. What stories do they have to tell? What songs does your body have within? How can we approach song-writing and spoken word from our bodies’ own ways of knowing and expressing\, rather than simply as an intellectual exercise? What does your body\, and the body of your community\, want to say about the world? What needs to be heard? \nThis FREE workshop will be facilitated by students of Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre (located in Blue Lake). We will be using movement as a way to enter into the creative work of writing. \nAll are welcome\, regardless of age or level of experience. \nBYOInstruments if possible! We will have extras as well. \nIf you are a youth aged 24 or under\, there is the possibility of performing some of the materials from this workshop in early June (details at the event). \nDonations are welcome and will go to supporting Outer Space.

SUMMARY:Queer Cafe featuring Olivia Clarke and Charlie Ritchie
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy coffee\, tea\, snacks\, and some delightful music while sharing space. Local groups that make up and serve the queer community of Humboldt will be there to mingle and talk about their work and programs. \nFeatured artist: Olivia Clarke – acoustic singer-songwriter from Rochester\, NY \n“Olivia Clarke has never shied away from thinning the line between art and life\, often using melody as a linking factor. Her new album\, ‘Trying to Fall Out of Love’\, continues this notion\, interweaving topics of mental illness\, trauma\, and moments of love and loss with a vulnerable\, urgent space. Her songs intimately cut through to reality as a means of seeing meaning in every gesture\, whether it be spending time with loved ones or appreciating the end of a summer day”\nTake a listen: https://oliviaclarke.bandcamp.com/releases \nLocal Support from: Charlie Ritchie – acoustic indie rock from Eureka\, CA \n“Charlie Ritchie is a bi trans woman from Eureka\, singer and guitarist from Dirt Magic\, playing solo versions of her songs. Dirt Magic’s bluesy hard rock songs will be reimagined as soulful indie rock.”\nTake a listen: http://www.soundcloud.com/dirt-magic \nAlso represented will be: RAVEN project’s Queer Prom\, How Bazaar Queer Craft Fair\, Eric Rofes Queer Multicultural Center\, Fancyland Queer Land Project\, and Arcata High Saga Club.

SUMMARY:Pizza & Pints for Outer Space! At The Madrone w/Douse & Hollan
DESCRIPTION:Come out to The Madrone Taphouse Thursday April 25th from 4-8pm to support Outer Space Arcata! A portion of sales will be donated to Outer Space to keep our DIY all ages community space surviving & thriving! \nLive music by Douse\, on tour from Vancouver\, BC.\n“Perhaps the most interesting work comes when bands allow themselves to be free from genre constraints\, who find their own form of navigation\, unearth new and inventive ways of stirring the emotions of those of us lucky enough to find ourselves along for the ride. Douse are one such band\, a Vancouver trio that\, upon first glance\, fit neatly within the lineage of good old Canadian indie-rock\, but one\, also\, who have carved out a space of their own\, finding ever intriguing and impressive ways of delivering their work. Veering between subtle\, ambient moments of restraint and powerful moments of aggression\, Alea Rae Clark\, Jeremiah Ackermann\, and Patrick Farrugia\, make music that is both spacious and grandiose\, both subtle and powerful. There are\, after all\, no rules here. So we hear measured new-wave and post-punk\, moody textures and dense\, cavernous landscapes to explore\, before their world-beat influences take focus\, all sparkling guitar lines and Clark’s buoyant lead voice.”\nhttps://www.facebook.com/douseband/\nhttps://douseband.bandcamp.com/ \nCome early to see local singer-songwriter Hollan. She will be moving back to Pennsylvania soon\, so catch her while you can!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/hollanmusic/\nhttps://www.hollanmusic.com/music \nThe Madrone is located at 421 3rd Street in Eureka. Thanks for your support! ✨🚀🍕🚀✨ \n\nSee Less
