Humboldt Mutual Aid Network Meeting
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief is a grassroots disaster relief network based on the principles of solidarity, mutual aid, and autonomous direct action. The Humboldt Mutual Aid Network is a working group in the MADR network working to better prepare our community for future natural disasters and better ways to cope and support each other with the daily routine of life threatening disasters of capitalism and white supremacy. We are doing that by learning how the current system does and doesn’t work, learn about each others skills and needs, meet people in our communities, practice decision making together, and build cooperative projects all while creating a local disaster network. These cooperative projects are a form of political participation in which people take responsibility for caring for each other and changing political conditions, not just through symbolic acts and writing letters to their senators but by creating new social relations that more survivable. We have affinity groups that folks can join after becoming part of Mutual Aid:
-Accountability Process
-Pen Pals w/People who are Incarcerated
-Radical Reading
-Gardening
-Care not Cops
-Research on already existing Disaster response services/groups.
